Julia Marshall, Ph.D.

Julia received her B.A. in psychology from Emory University and her PhD in psychology from Yale University under the supervision of Dr. Paul Bloom. She is broadly interested in social cognitive development and cooperation. Specifically, Julia is interested in what dimensions children and adults rely upon to shape intuitions about obligation. For example, do children and adults utilize social relationship (i.e., friends, strangers) to guide their judgments about obligation? Additionally, Julia is also interested in the emergence of cooperative behavior, specifically punishment. When do children punish others and why? In the Morality Lab specifically, Julia continues her work on obligation, focusing more on how adults reason about obligation. Starting July 2024, she will be starting as an Assistant Professor at Brown University.
